29th March 2012 Meeting with Andrew Turner MP


It is a privilege to be asked as a Church leader to join our MP for a forum, where ideas which directly affect our nation are discussed. This is not to be underestimated in any way. A forum of faith leaders on the IOW discussed an agenda with Mr Turner which included:
The definition of marriage, civil partnerships (Good news- Mr Turner is opposing all motions to change the current definition)
Abortion legislation (Mr Turner is taking a pro-life stance)
Religious freedom: Mr Turner expressed concern that further down the line, there could be more serious consequences of expressing a belief offensive to someone else. Makes me think that we need to campaign and pray hard in this area.
The on-going debate on assisted suicide (Mr Turner was cautiously against any changes, whilst realising there are some very difficult individual cases)
Charlie hancock, representing Foodbank IOW expressed his concerns over proposed changes in the benefit system. The were noted
