A very Good Friday, part 2/3

This was the annual Newport Churches Walk of Witness. We met in the sun outside St Mary’s Church, Carisbrooke and I knew it was going to be a good walk, when Rev Marcus Bagg, suggested that we sung our 1st hymn outside in the sun… fantastic! We walked down, behind the cross through Carisbrooke, along the Mall to the top of town, where we stopped at Castlehold Baptist. Rather than going inside, we had a reading and prayer outside, which was a very good visual witness in that part of town.
We proceeded to the RC Church garden, where we were met by Father Sean, a visiting priest, who spoke really movingly about how the cross was for us all, no one is more special than anyone else.
After that it was next door to outside the Congregational Church, where Mark & Denise Evans, the keen new leaders there led us in song. From there, it was down Newport high Street, which with all the shops open gave us a great chance to be a visual witness to a lot of people.
At the Minster, again, rather than going in, we stood in the Square and sung “When I survey the Wondrous cross”- what a moment- it’s like we resonated with heaven… I wanted everyone I knew to be there at that moment, I was so proud to be part of God’s family.
A little boy was overheard saying, “Mum, they’re singing about Jesus!” YES WE WERE!
A fter a stop at the Methodist Church, we prayed for our council and local authorities outside County Hall and then finished at Church on the Roundabout with refreshments.
THANK YOU to everyone who was part of this… It was the most friendly, flexible, impromptu, visual witness we have done together for a long time. We even tweeted where we were for out Twitter followers!
Next year, we have plans to make the event bigger and better organised and publicised, whilst keeping everything good from this year.
