Words & actions: A quality community response

Following a negative post about the state of the church building on a Community Facebook page, there followed literally hundreds of positive responses from our local community sayng how much they valued the church and what it has done for them and for the community.
It also included a number of offers of help from volunteers and local tradespeople. In response to this the church organised a community action day, which took place on 29th January, where people could come and volunteer their help.
First on the scene were Kevin & Gary Cooper and Shawn Wilcox from KC Tree Work (pictured), bringing their time, skills and machinery to do an amazing job cutting back trees on site. They also chipped it all up, which will make excellent mulch for the church’s community food forest. Founder Tom Murphy and team were on hand to prune back trees and prepare the garden for another fruitful season.
A total of 17 people joined in the day, enabling us to do a lot of other jobs to make the building look so much better, including painting signs for the garden, cutting back brambles, cleaning childrens toys, weeding and generally tidying and cleaning the site.
All of this work was powered by coffee, cake (thank you Susan Gibson) and a BarBQ (thank you Paul beardmore)
This is the start, not the finish and there is much more planned, including another day in April (date to be finalised), which will involve a repaint of the outside of the building, led by Brad of Wight Decor who has volunteered his time for this.
