HUBFEST 2018
Church on the Roundabout celebrated their 3rd annual Hubfest, the aim being to celebrate everything that the church and community do together in this area. Local people were invited to a day of live music, free food and children’s activities.
There were interviews with Tom Murphy from Coppins Community Food Forest, Julie Jones Evans from Newport Parish Council and Pete Luther from the charity Revive-Newport.
IW Learning Zone, Pan Older and Foodbank were also represented.
Music was provided from bands, STOP, The Bearded Boys and M&S Music.
Everyone could have a chance to try the delicious food grown for the community by the Food Forest. There was a a free BBQ and a Kidzsone including bouncy castle, crafts for the children.
There was also a prayer tree, where people could write their prayers on a leaf and attach it to the tree. Church leader Tony Murphy explained, “This is not a gimmick. We will commit to praying for these people and situations. The plan is to have a permanent prayer tree in the garden where people can go and say a quiet prayer based on what is written on the leaves.” He went on to say, “I am really happy with the way this day went. It’s called Hubfest, because we believe that the church should be at the heart of community life. It is so easy to have a narrow view of church and not realise the extent to which it is an integral part of the local community. Days like today help change that thinking.”
There will be a short highlights video released on Sunday 7th October on the front page of the church website www.ctr-iow.org.uk
