Journeying Together

A direction, a reminder and a promise

Date:

Speaker: Tony Murphy

READ Matt 28v16-20

Continuing the Easter theme, today Tony speaks on Jesus’ final resurrection appearance before he ascended into heaven. Someone’s final words are always important to them. And this is certainly the case with Jesus.
In the final 2 verses Jesus says 3 things

  1. A direction: “Go and make disciples of all nations…”
  2. A reminder: “Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…”
  3. A promise: “Surely I am with you to the very end of the age.”

The direction is one that is our “north star”, to raise up and equip disciples in all we do.
The reminder to teach Jesus’ commands can be summed up in our recent reading of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), which Tony gave a 3 minute overview of
The promise is a wonderful one, that he will always be with us. We only need to remind ourselves of last week’s message of the way Jesus revealed himself to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Reading Acts 1v8 shows us how Jesus intends to be with us by sending his Holy Spirit. This is something we will explore next weekend, especially on Friday evening at 7pm when we are joined by the team from Charis Bible College.
